You Can Do the Challenge to Your Own Rules
I love NaNoWriMo — I even have the shirt. The theme this year is time travel. This year’s shirt design is similar to a tattoo I have on my upper back even.
I love novels.
I do not love rules. Or at least ones that are imposed upon me. I do enjoy making my own rules.
My writing centers around short fiction and poetry but I also enjoy community and the challenge of writing 50,000 words in one month. I am influenced by Stephen King and his ideal 2000 word count a day. I am striving for this during the month of November and keep track of the word count. On a normal day, I write in notebooks and on the computer so word counts are harder to keep track of in my experience.
So, yes, I am doing NANOWRIMO, but in my own way.
I am writing 2000 words plus a day.
The system I am working with combines several challenges I believe in. First, I am participating in Nancy Stohlman’s Flash Nano challenge and use her prompts writing around a character that came from a story I wrote called Dreams and Hourglasses. The female character is named Brooklyn.
In addition to Nancy’r prompts, I signed up for Sarah Selecky’s daily writing prompts and have used them every day since April.
