Writers keep journals and notebooks. You may be the writer who finishes a volume and places it on the shelf in order and you never look at it again. You may be the writer who has the journals thrown in the closet. You might be the writer somewhere in between.

I am the writer who has the notebooks all over the place — the garage, the bookcase, next to the bed, at work. While thumbing through an old journal looking for inspiration, I came across a few anecdotes about my son who is 16. As I read my notes that consisted of three sentences, the memories came flooding back and made me smile.

Last year on Tsh Oxenreider’s Art of Simple podcast a guest talked about setting up an email account for her young daughter. She sends funny or heartfelt emails and memories to her daughter in email form with the idea that the account will become accessed by her many years from now and she will be able to read all the messages. I wish I would have thought of this idea years ago for my children. I love the idea of a memory book in letter form.

Years from now I will have to direct my son to this post! Here are some of the memories.
