I am totally on board with your approach. I wake up early every morning as well — usually between 3 and 4am and start writing. Often I am able to get at least 2.5 hours in.

I also write “in the edges” or at least what I call it. Any opportunity of waiting is used for writing. I use the voice app on my phone to make notes when I am in the car too. Lunches and any breaks I am writing too.

Studying and learning craft is so important. Podcasts have been really helpful for me in this realm.

My writing communities are there for support as well. I don’t have to be reminded to write — just like I don’t have to be reminded to eat or breath. Writing is who I am.

I am so glad I found your writing — or you found me rather! And who doesn’t love dragons! Always a good conversation topic.
