Last year I wrote a novel for NANOWRIMO and about halfway through I wasn’t certain I would be able to finish. I felt I was running out of things to write about within the story. As I continue to write, I have found this stalling is part of my process. You can read about my experience with my struggle this year here.

A common practice for me is to use timed writing sprints to get words on the page. I have joined official NANOWRIMO ones from the Twitter feed and on my online writing group, but needed something else.

I turned to my tarot deck.

Through my increased interaction with other writers I have found tarot decks to be prevalent in their bag of tricks. Many will not admit it until I mention it first. There is a stigma around tarot cards, but it seems to be getting better. They are bits of cardboard with pictures on them. Some readers use the cards for divination but I have found they are a great way to get to the heart of how you are thinking about a topic.
