A prompt from the DIY MFA Book Club inspired this post: Tell a story about a time when you had to honor your reality. Has there ever been a moment when writing felt completely incompatible with your real life–when it felt like there was just no way you could make the two exist together?

When analyzing life to be able to schedule everything in, one thinks about the concept of balance and honoring the truth of my life. What I deem most important is what I should block time out for.

YES AND NO

I have been contemplating what I am saying “YES” to in my life and “NO!” This idea has been inspired by Tsh Oxenreider from The Simple Show and her amazing podcast series. She rereads the book Essentialism by Greg McKeown every year which is a title I have also read.

Things I have been saying NO to lately:

+ Feeling bad about truly putting my family first

+ Apologizing for statements about what I believe in

+Toxic people

Things I have been saying YES to:

+Family

+Honoring my knowledge, experience, and expertise in the field of education
