A Poem
The china plate
Thrown against the wall is
Scattered in pieces.
Stones fall from nowhere
To shatter the facade
Of “okayness”
Electric currents
Flow to repair, connect,
Mend.
I’m curious
Why emotional scars
Never heal.
Liquid ice
Creeps up
Disguised as porcelain
Decorated with blue flowers.
Chinese symbols speak to me
From books I’ve never read.
Faces turned up to be washed
Water dripping into my ears
Moistening my lips and
Hair while
Images of childhood spins
In the yard and falls to the
Ground.
Now it is not a game
No laughter
Only rain from my eyes
Chest tightly bound
Wrapped and wrapped
Til I can
Scarcely breathe.
