A learning protocol with quotes from great books

I am at a literacy academy this week and we are focused on 4 core texts that we are studying for the school year.

One of the protocols is to move around the room in counted off groups of 4. We had sharpies in hand and underlined the lines that popped out to us from quotes from the 4 books. We could mark words, phrases or sentences.

The 4 books:

At each station we paired up with someone in our group and then underlined. Then we discussed why we liked that word, phrase, or sentence. Some items were underlined numerous times.

I always want to do more things in trainings I lead and get people to move around. I like the idea of the quotes being put up on post it notes paper and students interacting with the text.
